Dr Rajiv Mahajan’s faimer project adopted by university

Dr Rajiv Mahajan, Professor (Pharmacology), Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Bathinda, and currently Principal of the institute, a CMCL-FRI 2016 fellow took up FAIMER fellowship project: Development and evaluation of a structured Module for Interns in Medical Ethics in patients’ care. A paper based upon the fellow research project, titled - Module for Interns in Medical Ethics: A Developmental Diegesis, was published in December 2017. A module based upon the fellow’s project was published in the form of a booklet in January 2018 and the module titled – MIME: Module for Interns in Medical Ethics in Patient Care, was released during the convocation ceremony of CMCL-FRI Batch 2016 graduates. The work was expanded with next batches and based upon the consequent results with next batches, the module has now been adopted and introduced for regular training of interns at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, SGRD University of Health Sciences, Amritsar. Regular training of interns will start from this batch itself. The training will be conducted in the form of 3 days workshop, in small batches of 20-25 interns, during Community Medicine posting.


Lieutenant General Madhuri Kanitkar (CMCL Fellow 2012) promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant General

Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, Dean, AFMC, Pune was promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant General. This historic promotion makes her the third woman officer and the first paediatrician to rise to the second-highest rank in the Indian Armed Forces. She is also nominated to the Prime Minister’s Science Technology Innovation Advisory Committee.
She has a number of firsts to her credit as a woman. She has been the first Pediatric Nephrologist of the Indian Army Medical Corps setting up a facility in Pune and Delhi, the first woman to take over as Dean at Armed Forces Medical College, the first serving officer on the PM-STIAC and on Board of Governors (BOG), Medical Council of India. She has been the first clinician in the AMC to complete a FAIMER fellowship and now many have followed in her footsteps. She has recently become the first Pediatrician to be selected for the rank of Lt Gen and she and her husband are the first couple in the Commonwealth to both reach the rank of Lt General.

Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar has served in the Indian military for 37 years. Her project in FAIMER fellowship was ‘E-Mentoring young pediatricians, working in peripheral hospitals in the Armed Forces for continuous professional development’.

Dr Dinesh Badyal included in MCI Expert group as Member

Dr. Dinesh Badyal  has been included as Member of MCI Expert Group, Implementation & monitoring of competency based UG curriculum. This group will constitute guidelines and monitor implementation of new curriculum. Dr Badyal will also look after implementation of new curriculum in medical colleges of Punjab, Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr Dinesh Badyal first visiting scholar to Rector Centre, Philadelphia

Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Director, CMCLFAIMER; Convener, Medical Council of India (MCI) Nodal Centre for Faculty Development and Professor, Department of Pharmacology & Department of Medical Education, CMC, Ludhiana was invited as First visiting scholar to Rector Clinical Skills and Simulation center of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA supported by FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education & Research), USA. Dr. Badyal worked with world renowned simulation expects in medical education and learnt techniques in using low fidelity and high fidelity simulation in medical education.

Himanshu Pandya Is Appointed Associate Dean for UG at Pramukhswami Medical College

Himanshu Pandya (CMCL FAIMER Fellow 2007), appointed Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at Pramukhswami Medical College in Karamsad, India, 2018. Dr. Pandya also serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at Pramukhswami Medical College, and was recently elected as President of the Academy of Health Professions Educators (AHPE) .

NDr Tejinder Singh awarded NBE Excellence Award (Eminent Alumnus) by Hon. Vice President of India. 2014 (2018)

Dr. Tejinder Singh, Professor of Paediatrics & Vice Principal,  Christian Medical College, Ludhiana was awarded NBE Excellence Award (Eminent Alumnus) by Hon. Vice President of India. 2014 (2018). Dr. Singh is a distinguished paediatrician, academician, researcher, and teacher. A major leader in the realm of medical education, Dr. Tejinder Singh has published extensively in the field. He has published more than 260 works in national and international journals, has contributed 45 chapters in textbooks and is the author of four textbooks. 

Dr Dinesh Badyal’s 2nd edition of book on Pharmacology released

Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Professor & Head, Pharmacology published second edition of his book “Practical Manual of Pharmacology” (Jaypee Publishers). The book was released by Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC during MCI Program on 25th April, 2018. The changing paradigms of pharmacology and upcoming new curriculum for MBBS necessitated 2nd edition. This second edition of the book emphasizes more on the use of low cost and less resource intensive methods for the teaching of clinical pharmacology. The book is quite popular and second edition is updated with new prescription guidelines, latest essential medicine list, use of newer media, prescription audits, basics of research, adverse drug reaction monitoring and case-based learning.

Dr. Dinesh Badyal, awarded Masters in Health Profession Education (MHPE) with Merit by Keele University, UK

Dr. Dinesh K. Badyal Professor & Head, Pharmacology and Professor of Medical Education was recently awarded Master’s degree “Masters in Health Profession Education (MHPE)” with ‘Merit’ by Keele University, UK. This is a very prestigious and internationally renowned degree in medical education. The selection process is very competitive and even after selection the success rate is quite less. The whole course is designed over various modules with mandatory assignment and a contact session at Keele University. The course is very rigorous and demands a lot of academic input and successful completion of dissertation. Only approx. 10 faculty from India has been awarded MHPE. This qualification will be a value addition in the progress of Department of Medical Education, CMC, Ludhiana.MHPE 2014 Batch with faculty at Keele University, UK

Special issue in ME of IJABMR

International Journal of Applied and Basic Medical Research (IJABMR) published a special issue in Medical Education, containing 15 projects of the CMCL-FRI FAIMER graduates of Batch 2016. Dr Tejinder Singh and Dr Dinesh Badyal were the Guest Editors for the special issue. The issue was released during convocation of Batch 2016 on 5th February 2018.
